Not a great reading week. I am hoping the next few novels are much, much better.
FINISHED SINCE THE LAST UPDATE:
I love, love, love how Ms. Young was able to tie all six books in The Program series together in the final novel. Even those that felt like they were stand-alone novels had a purpose. All together, complete with the finale, this makes for one of the most compelling series in YA fiction.
I am struggling to figure out just what Melissa Broder wanted to do with her novel. Was it to shock? Was it to discuss the idea of relationships? Was it to find an excuse to write about sex with a merman? There is nothing sexy about this novel about love versus lust, addiction versus obsession. I can’t even believe I finished it let alone recommend it to anyone.
Jenny Milchman’s latest novel was okay. It was too long; the whole thing could have been shortened by at least 100 pages or more. The story was okay as well. I honestly skimmed most of the story, skipping entire chapters without losing anything, because I wanted to find out what happened but did not have the patience to wade through the minutiae to do so.
DID NOT FINISH:
None of them were bad enough to warrant DNFing, at least for me.

I hope this week is a better reading week for you!
Thanks, Brandie! Me too!
