Favorites:
- Cooking:
- I finally got back into regular meal planning, grocery list making, and cooking. I rediscovered old favorites and made some new recipes. My favorite this month by far was Mac and Cheese with Chorizo, Cotija, and Aged Cheddar from my macaroni and cheese cookbook. I really want to make it again, but I think it might be a bit too soon for something that indulgent.
- Video:
- I finally got a link to the Iowa State marching band performances. This video is from this past weekend when they received the Sudler Trophy for best marching band in the country. It is considered the Heisman for bands. I think the video explains it all and shows why they received it.
- Make-up
- More yummy makeup this month. I seem to have embraced this highlight/sparkle trend lately, and I love it. The highlighter is amazing. It is very subtle and gives the perfect amount of sheen on my cheekbones. The lip topper is brand-new but I am so impressed. Not only is beautiful, it is stay-proof as well. I love not leaving lipstick or glitter on my coffee cups!
How did I persevere?
- Meditation/Healthy Habits/Political Activism: Grade IC – Ugh. Just. Ugh. I thought I did a fairly decent job of meditating this month until I looked at my habit tracker. Yeah, not so much. Healthy habits? Nonexistent. Political activism? If it doesn’t come to me in the form of a petition I can sign, it hasn’t been getting done. I’m just tired. So tired of the fighting and the Twitter tantrums and the name calling and the lies. Oh! The lies! As I type this though, the Manafort/Papadopoulos indictments are headline news, and I have a faint glimmer of hope for the first time since November 7th of last year. It will be fascinating to see how this all plays out over the next few months.
How was your October? Any highs or lows you would like to share?

Impressive band! I liked the video & Overture. I’m still hoping the prez & administration will be booted out. the whole lot of them …
My husband and I were definitely impressed. So much so that we are hoping to go to whatever bowl game they attend so that we can see them perform in much better weather than when we visited Connor.
I love sparkle. I don’t experiment with make-up much. Especially since I am still unable to wear lipstick. Now, I seem to be reacting to different face washes if they touch my right eyebrow. I know!! So weird. My entire face is okay but my one eyebrow is not no matter what I wash with. I have to not wash that eyebrow. Not with soap anyway.
I am beginning to love sparkle too. Not a lot. Just a kiss of it. No glitter either. This has to be a sheen built into the product.
One eyebrow? That is so odd. Have you tried evening primrose oil? I was looking into it and considering it as a way to combat some of my acne issues and dry skin everywhere else.
I can’t even THINK about politics these days. I’m just so DONE.
I’m getting close.
Lots of great memories for the month! Okay, I need a good lip gloss that won’t leave marks on my coffee mug. I’m cheap and the only type of gloss I like to wear is similar to Victoria’s Secret gloss. Any recommendations? I’m sick of the marks!
That mac n cheese looks amazing.
I’m not aware of any that won’t leave marks. Lip gloss is a tricky thing because it needs to be wet to be shiny. The lip toppers I mention are glittery – they give the illusion of shine without being glossy. But I will definitely have to do some digging to find a smudge-proof liquid lipstick/gloss.
