We should always find ways to celebrate the little things in life. What better day to celebrate these little things than the best day of the week? So, here are the things that make this a Fabulous Friday for me this week.

- MY BABY IS A COLLEGE STUDENT – I have not decided if this makes today a Fabulous Friday or not, but on Monday, we move Connor into his dorm room and leave him to start his future at Iowa State University. I am feeling an assortment of emotions at this point in time, pride and excitement being two of the highest right now. I know that it will change as we get closer to leaving him, but for now, I cannot wait to get him settled and watch him soar.
- STRIKING OUT ON MY OWN – On Monday morning, I made the decision to start my own freelance accounting business. I will not be quitting my corporate job any time soon, but I will be looking to find individuals or small businesses looking for an accountant to help them with their taxes, their various business accounts, payroll, etc. Hopefully, some day, I will have enough clients that I can quit my corporate job. Even though I swore I would never go into business for myself, this one decision made the week bearable. I have no clients and am working solely by word of mouth, but the mere thought of being my own boss fills me with hope and excitement the likes of which I have not felt in a long time. Now, if anyone is looking for an accountant, I’m your gal!

What makes this a Fabulous Friday for you?

Good luck to Connor on this next step – and to you in surviving those first few days. It will get easier as time goes by but it life will sure be less crazy in your house with him gone and his activities off your calendar. Congrats on making the decision to start your own business – hope you’re able to get out of the corporate world and on your own sooner rather than later!
Thanks, Lisa! Life may be less crazy, but I lost my driver for Holly. Jim and I have to juggle our schedules now to get her to where she needs to be on time. This will definitely take some adjustment, as will not having to make so much food. And a quiet house.
As for the business, thanks! If you know of someone who is in need of an accountant, please let me know!
So you son moves in next week. I think you will be okay. It will be strange to not have him around but with technology you can still stay connected. My son drove off to San Francisco last week for a small vacation. His girlfriend leaves for school soon and it was their last hurrah. However, he was supposed to check out schools while there and didn’t so now he has to go back. I really wish he would look at San Francisco State as I get a 50% tuition break on CSUs but no.. he is looking at U of San Francisco. The cost of living there has been in the news recently. I don’t know how he could swing it, really.
I know I’ll be fine. Yes, it will be odd, but he was gone so much last year that it will feel somewhat normal too.
We have an agreement with Connor that he gets to pay for two years, and we will pay for two years. However, if his grades are horrible, he will have to pay for more. I’m not happy he is going out of state for school given the expense, but I do understand he had to if he wanted to graduate with his degree choice. I have no idea how he is going to pay for his half of college though. He never did get a summer job.
Both exciting!! I hope getting Connor settled goes smoothly and that he loves his first year. I’m SO happy to hear your decision to get your own business started! I think you’ll love it and it will lead to great things for you. Good for you for having the courage to give it a try – life is too short not to live it the way you want to!
Thank you! I am so not an entrepreneur so this is all new to me and WAY out of my comfort zone. I’m just going to do things by word of mouth right now and see how things go. In the meantime, if you need an accountant or know someone who is, it can all be done remotely too! 😉
Congrats on your son’s move to college! Very exciting!
Thanks! It IS exciting. I am so happy for him.
