I am still riding the high from all of the pictures and stories from yesterday’s Women’s March. I could not march in person but I was there in spirit with each and every person who did. For the first time since November, I feel hope for our future, and I am actually rather excited to participate in the unfolding resistance.
The boys thank you for all of the well wishes last week. They successfully completed the marathon. Connor finished in just under four hours, and Jim finished fifteen minutes later. While these were not the times either wanted, I’m impressed they finished. Connor never really properly trained for the race, so the fact that he finished let alone beat his father is impressive. Jim did train but he struggled with maintaining a regular schedule during the month of December with his various trips. Both were very sore for at least two days after running, and they both took a very long nap Sunday afternoon so no more sightseeing for us. That’s okay. I am so very proud of them.
Connor and Jim returned from Ames, Iowa very impressed with the campus, the band program, and particularly the aeronautical engineering program. In Jim’s mind, it should not be a difficult decision for Connor to make. However, Connor remains undecided. He wants to contact some people in their aeronautical engineering program before he makes his final decision. Hopefully, he will do so soon so that we can start making plans for the summer. Trying to plan a vacation when he has no idea when he will be attending freshman orientation is proving to be impossible.
Bookended like it was, the rest of the week was relatively uneventful. The kids ended up missing school not just Monday but Tuesday as well because of ice. Then, they were off on Friday because that was supposed to have been the end of the semester. Now, Connor has one last day of finals on Monday, and the start of the semester has been pushed back to Tuesday. What should be interesting is that next week is the first full week of school/work that we all will have since the middle of December. I know I am not the only one seriously dreading it.
Here are past posts from the last week in case you missed them the first time:
