Happy Sunday!!
Remember those issues with my site loading or being unavailable? After talking with my site designer, she felt it could be a combination of hosting server issues as well as potential coding conflicts among templates, WordPress, and my plugins. She gave me some great starting points before getting my host involved and/or potentially spending money to upgrade to VPS. So, after some major testing this week, I think I have the problem resolved. I have not noticed the same error message at least when I have been updating posts on my end. Please, please let me know if you still have issues outside of slow loading. (That is definitely going to require an upgrade to a different server.) Otherwise, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all of these problems are dust in the wind…
The first official week of cross country practice, affectionately known by the kids as Hell Week, is in the books. Holly struggled a bit having to run such long distances for five days in a row. Connor loved every minute of it and even attended as many evening practices, the second practice of the day, as possible. Next week is Connor’s first meet, so things are moving quickly.
On the calendar now is Holly’s dance schedule for the year, not including dances she is in for the competition team. She is slated for yet another busy year with two ballet classes in addition to everything else she normally takes. Given how nervous she is for middle school and uncertain about how things will be for her once school starts in September, dance is her one constant and may be the only thing that is preventing her from having meltdowns due to nerves at this point in time. I am so glad she has that in her life.
Even though we have not yet started anything approaching fall-like weather, Jim still managed to come down with a nasty cold this week. In the true spirit of being a man, he acted like he was dying, staying at home for a day, sneezing and coughing loudly enough so that we all knew he felt miserable. Thankfully, he is on the mend, and now we are busy disinfecting the house because the kids and I do not want to give him the chance of getting it again.
On the site for the past week, here is what I posted in case you missed them the first time:
- It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? – 15 August 2016
- The Peculiar Miracles of Antoinette Martin
- War Porn
- The Underground Railroad
- Fabulous Friday
- Truly, Madly, Guilty
I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday doing whatever makes them happy. Have a great week, and I’ll see you here next week!

Poor Jim! I hope nobody else catches his cold — summer colds are an absolute misery. Worse than winter colds to my mind, because at least in winter you can enjoy a hot cup of tea or whatever. In summer it all just feels unbearable.
So far we are all good. I am hoping we are going to luck out on this round of germs.
We are in full swing with middle school and all the homework stress that comes with it. The Teen starts school next week. We’ll see how his super long Tuesdays and Thursdays go.
Play rehearsals start mid Sept so I have a bit more time to warm up to them. It’s easier now because she is older.
I am just plodding along. My doctor told me I had to exercise, which I hate with a passion because I ALWAYS gain weight. And sure enough, been exercising for a month and have gained 12 lbs. I took Benadryl last night because I had a weird reaction to hair dye and this morning I lost four lbs so maybe I have inflammation going on but why? No more lupus according to my doc. No joint pain. Nada.
Ah, homework stress. I am not looking forward to that again. The Teen is taking classes at the community college, right? When does he need to apply again to DePaul?
Enjoy the respite before play rehearsals! Connor’s first cross-country meet is this week already. Too soon. It is all too soon.
That is so weird. It sounds like you most definitely have inflammation if you lost four pounds overnight. The twelve pounds in one month seems odd too. Another trip to the doctor?
Hahaha…why do men always act that way when they’re sick?! It’s the same in my house when that happens. 🙂
The weather changing is so nice, but it’s bad for my sinuses. I’ve been fighting off the cold for a few days and I think it’s working, knock on wood.
I so wish I had run cross country in school. I think it’s awesome your kids are in it.
I hope you have a great week!
I don’t know but this time even the kids called him out on his behavior. All I could do was laugh. And kick him to the guest bedroom. So far, we have all be able to avoid a similar fate. (Knock on wood.)
Have a great week!
I was reading your post via Pocket but went to read it via your website just to test it. It got there and no 404 or other errors. As for your husband’s cold, as a man, I completely empathize with him. 😉 Rainy day here but watching NASCAR this afternoon and now catching up on reading blog posts this afternoon so all good.
LOL! I’m sure you can empathize with him. I should talk to Kim to see if she empathizes with me! 😉
I’m so glad everyone seems to be having no more problems with my site. Whew.
We had a gorgeous day today. I am catching up on email now for a peaceful way to end the weekend.
Have a good one!
Glad the site issues seem to be on the mend! I haven’t had any issues since you tweeted me a week or so ago, so looks to be good!
Woohoo!! That’s what I want to hear!
