Hosted by Sheila from Book Journey, this is a weekly event to share what we’ve read in the past week and what we hope to read, plus whatever else comes to mind. To learn more about each book, just click on the book cover!
Finished Last Week:
Did Not Finish:
This is all me. I think. I tried reading them both but only got about one to two chapters into each before I had no desire to read either of them any further. I think I just need a break from review copies.

I’m going to leave this blank for now. I think it’s time to go back to book reading roulette and let the random number generator select my next reads for me. I need to shake off this ennui when it comes to books.
What are you reading?

Wow you really got into Veronica Roth last week, LOL. I read Divergent but havent done the other two. Are they worth it? I’m reading Circling the Sun and liking it but I’m a Beryl Markham fan to begin with. Enjoy your week!
I read Divergent before it was first released, and friends of mine have been begging me to finish the series. I’m glad I read them all together. I think it would have killed me to wait between books two and three.
I’m not certain I am going to get to Circling the Sun. I’m trying to take a more relaxed approach to my review copies. In other words, I am tired of them. LOL. If I don’t get to it before my e-galley expires, it won’t bother me.
I get overwhelmed with review copies all the time and just want to read what I feel like reading. Nothing wrong with that. You got a lot of reading done last week by going that route!
It was a relief to pull a book or two off of my non-review shelves and finish them. I’m not going to lie. I think I need to get better about reading non-review books. I’ve been doing better about not requesting as many review copies, but I just look at my backlog and get so frustrated. I’m making progress but it is slow, slow, slow. If I were reading at the pace I was at last year, I wouldn’t have this problem at all – which also frustrates me. It really is a first world problem though, isn’t it? I’ll shut up now! 😉
No, I totally understand!! I was reading so much faster at the beginning of the year, and I feel like I’m reading at a snails pace lately. I can’t even get through the books I have, not to mention the ones I keep adding to my list. It’s frustrating.
Exactly. According to my tracking, I’m reading at half the pace I was last year. That’s slow for me. I don’t like it only because it means not getting to read the books I want to read in a timely fashion. Then, of course, something else comes along and pushes them down even further. I just wish there was an easy way to manage it all.
Oh no, bookish ennui is the worst. 🙁 I think you’re right that it may be time to lay off the review books. When I feel like I *have* to read something, for a deadline and/or review, it can really take some of the charm away from it. Random number generator sounds like a good way to go!
I was going to say that I don’t feel obligated to read them, but then I stopped and realized that yes, I do. I’m glad I took a break and read the Divergent series. I’m thinking of changing my whole approach to review copies too. I’ve said this before though and haven’t changed anything. We shall see if I stick with that determination this time.
I have read the Hoffman book and liked it very much. Hope you do too.
My goal is to go back and try it again. I did think the writing was beautiful, but I honestly could have cared less about the characters or the story when I tried to read it the first time. I don’t know if that was due to my mindset at the time or just a fundamental issue with the book for me as a reader. I’m not going to lose sleep over the fact that I did not finish it, but I am glad you were able to enjoy it. It always makes me so sad when I don’t enjoy a book. Others who do make me feel better!
