I didn’t read as much as I had hoped to read while in Branson but I was able to finish two books. You may be wondering about this second book. It isn’t published yet, nor has it even been accepted by a publisher. However, it was written by a fellow dancer of Holly’s and a dear friend. She just happens to be seventeen years old and will be a senior in high school. The book is called The Disturbance, written by Emily K. Ward, and is the first in a planned series of three. I was able to introduce Miss Ward to an agent, in whose hands the book is now resting. I am also one of the privileged few to have read it. While it is a bit rough around the edges, I am happy to say it is an AMAZING book. It was an absolute pleasure to read. It is YA dystopian, but don’t let that fool you. It is unique in every way and thoroughly engrossing. I can only hope publishers feel the same way, and that you will all get a chance to read it.

Emily, I’m sending you my best wishes!
Belle, I will pass on your message!
I loved Circling the Sun. I hope you enjoy the book too.
Thanks, Mystica!
What a wonderful experience helping a young person find a publisher.
If by some chance it is rejected, don’t give up. Try other publishers. Most authors receive several knock backs before finding the right home for their book.
Good luck with your reading plans this week.
Thanks, Brona! I will pass on your comments to Emily. I know she’s trying to not get her hopes up too much knowing the success rate of first-time authors.
Only seventeen and already written an amazing book!? That is so awesome – I hope things turn out well for her with the agent. Really nice of you to introduce them! I hope you enjoy your books this week. You have several on deck that I can’t wait to see what you think.
This isn’t her first book either. She started writing when she was in grade school. It’s all so impressive and a bit intimidating. It was surreal at first to read this story written by someone I know and love but who hangs out with my daughter. After a while though, I was so engrossed in the story that I forgot all about that. I so hope the agent can sell it, so that I can share her talent with the world!!
Its so fun to read a book that no one else has gotten to see yet! That’s so great that you were able to connect her to an agent as well. I am really excited to get to Circling the Sun soon.
It’s been a blast helping her, and of course, nerve-wracking while we wait for a final response.
Circling the Sun is just one of many novels I cannot wait to read. I really need some downtime to just sit and read.
Ooh, how cool that you got to alpha-read her book AND get her connected with an agent! I hope to hear good news. 🙂
What did you think of The Book of Speculation? It’s on my library stack, and I’m trying to decide how to prioritize my reads.
Have a great week!
We all hope to hear good news! She is waiting not-so-patiently to hear something, even though she knows this part of the process can take months.
I’m struggling to write the review for that one. I hope to formalize my thoughts later this week.
