The holidays are meant for surprises, right?
What are you reading?

I picked up Rene Denfeld’s book The Enchanted and I’m liking it so far. We will see … Have you read it?
I have not read it. I wanted to but I think my e-galley expired before I got to it. You’ll have to let me know if I should get my hands on a copy!
I love the covers of Perdita, Ostland, and Descent. I’ll hop over to Goodreads and take a peek at them. 😉
All three were very interesting. I loved Descent the most out of the three.
Glad you have some room for surprises. If you need an idea, you can I join us for a Poisonwood Bible readalong. At least stop by the discussion if you’ve read it!
I would love to read/listen to As You Wish. Princess Bride is one of our family favorites. I still need to read the book too. Have you read it?
I’ve read Poisonwood Bible several times actually and really enjoy that story. (I will never look at an ant in the same way again.) Enjoy your readalong!
I have also read The Princess Bride. I didn’t love it as much as the movie; the movie is one of my all-time favorites.
Hi Michelle–I recently came across your blog while I was looking for reviews of a book I was thinking of reading. I enjoyed your reviews so much, I went back and many of your previous posts. Anyway, I usually have several books going at once, but one with primary focus. Right now that book for me is Jeff Vandermeer’s Authority, the second in the Southern Reach trilogy. I loved the first book, Annihilation, about a doomed expedition to an area where nature appears to be developing in “unnatural” ways. However, Authority isn’t grabbing me quite as much thus far; perhaps that’s because very early in the book a character is introduced who appears to be the personification of that tiresome trope “the angry błack woman.” I hope the character will become more complex as the book progresses because it’s really disappointing to find a writer who could produce an excellent book like Annihilation falling back on unnecessary (and damaging) cliches. Perhaps I’ll have something to report about that next week.
Hi Deb and welcome! I hope Authority picks up for you. There is nothing quite as bad as a sequel that is not just thoroughly disappointing but downright annoying. Good luck and have a great week!
I keep seeing Descent around and every time I think of the fictional novel in the Showtime show, The Affair. I’m interested to see everyone’s thoughts!
Oh, I want to gush about Descent so much but I don’t want to give anything away because I am afraid it will ruin it for other readers.
