Good morning! We have definitely reached the end of the school year push with activities, events, and everything else that keeps a family busy. The month of May absolutely flew past with two birthdays, a two-week business trip, Mother’s Day, a concert, field trips, company picnics, final school projects, tests, and the like. Jim and I have tried to sneak in some time to go riding among the yard work and the house work. The weather has at least been cooperating on that end. Glorious sun, relatively low humidity, and gorgeous evenings have more than made up for the fact that it took the entire month of May for spring to finally arrive.
We are not done yet! June will usher in the last week of school, Holly’s hellish week of rehearsals before her four dance recitals, a trip to Texas, marching band practices, and who knows what else. Just like last year, we are not looking at a peaceful and restful summer.
In spite of, or because of, all of these things, I’ve been managing to stay on top of all my reading. June has some absolutely fabulous books releasing, and I cannot wait to share my reactions with you. As it is, here are the books I reviewed for May:
- Black Lake by Johanna Lane
- Catching Air by Sarah Pekkanen
- Closed Doors by Lisa O’Donnell
- The Girl With the Windup Heart by Kady Cross
- The Immortal Crown by Richelle Mead
- Level 2 by Lenore Appelhans
- Life by Committee by Corey Ann Haydu
- The Lost by Sarah Beth Durst
- My Bluegrass Baby by Molly Harper
- One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern – My Bloggers Recommend selection for May
- The Shadow Year by Hannah Richell
- To Rise Again at a Decent Hour by Joshua Ferris
- The Secret Life of Violet Grant by Beatriz Williams
- The Three by Sarah Lotz
- The Transcriptionist by Amy Rowland
- The Vacationers by Emma Straub
- We Were Liars by E. Lockhart – My Bloggers Recommend selection for May
I apologize for this being so short but the housework never ends, and when you play on Saturday, you have to pay for it on Sunday. I hope everyone gets the chance to relax and unwind today. Have a great Sunday and even better week!

I’m glad you still find time for all your reading. I know I would go insane without my book time!
Oh, definitely. There were a few days last week when I couldn’t read during lunch. I went home and was in bed extremely early to get some reading time in for the day. I can’t function with it!
Sounds like you are quite busy – I’m impressed you get so much reading done! I haven’t gotten to read at all this weekend, but it’s been a fun family day going to lake with my husband and daughter. Can’t complain. 🙂
Hope you have a great week!
I haven’t read anything at all today either. I’m hoping to change that this evening. After all, I need to unwind before the work week!!
A trip to TEXAS??? Do tell!
Houston. The kids and Jim will be there for a week. I will be there for forty-eight hours because I couldn’t get out of seeing my in-laws for another year.
Somehow I feel that those 48 hours may be filled with angst. Hmmm
LOL! Probably. The sad part was it was the least amount of time I could spend there and hope for a decent visit!
I read 8 books in May, close to another audio finish, but I was requested at a family picnic with Kevin’s family. His parents have both passed away, and the 6 brothers are not super close, though 4 are geographically close. It wasn’t awful, but I didn’t read all day. I’ve got too many books for June/July I want to read, unreal!
I hear you. My list of July books to read before the Bloggers Recommend cutoff is at an all-time high. I honestly don’t know how I am going to get to them all. But trying to meet the challenge is half the fun.
We are in full, end of the year swing here as well. My Teen is hitting summer school for three classes this summer to get a jump on next year so I don’t think school will ever end in this house.
In feel though, it does feel as if summer has hit.
Holly wants to take FOUR dance classes this summer because, you know, that’s a break from the five she is taking now. I think once the kids reach a certain age, there is no such thing as summer break. LOL!
You’re a busy bee as usual 😀 Sorry I haven’t been around much…blog reading fell by the wayside for a while there. I hope all is well with you and yours!!
We are all busy, so I completely understand.
Impressive list! I’m about to start The Transcriptionist on audio.
Enjoy!
