Hosted by Sheila from Book Journey, this is a weekly event to share what we’ve read in the past week and what we hope to read, plus whatever else comes to mind.

I’m sure this is a wonderful thriller. The premise still intrigues me. Unfortunately, the narrative style does not mesh with my tastes. Thirty pages into the story, all I could focus on was the use of cliffhangers to end every chapter as well as the extremely short chapters used to artificially generate more suspense. The sentence structure was a bit too simplistic and repetitive. For example, the phrase “he watched” was used in three sentences in a row. This is one of those books where I would only be able to pay attention to how much the narrative bothers me, which is neither fair to the author nor fair to my own time and energy. Therefore, I’m calling this one an official DNF.

What are you reading?

I’m looking forward to reading both The Visitors and Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands. I hope they were great reads for you!
They actually were pretty great reads. Enjoy!
You have a terrific line-up here. I love the fact that you have such eclectic reading tastes. Eventually I want to read all the Dresden Files books.
Thanks! I often make myself laugh at how diverse my reading is. I mean, who else switches from light rom-com to horror to lit fic to YA to nonfiction to whatever else interests her? Then again, if I were a bit pickier in my choice of reading material, I probably wouldn’t have almost 700 books to read. Ah well. That’s a challenge I hope to win!
I’m curious about the Bohjalian book, and California sounds interesting too.
The Bohjalian is interesting, and then he packs an emotional wallop right at the end that I think is a complete game-changer. I haven’t yet written my review, but it is a book that is going to be on a lot of people’s lips this summer.
I love Stephen King. I can’t wait to get Mr. Mercedes!
You’re going to love it!
Looking forward to seeing what you think of The Queen of the Tearling! Reviews are all over the place on that book :). And yay Mr. Mercedes!
I really enjoyed it. The writing was excellent, and the story was so interesting. I hope others give it a chance!
Wow, all these books look amazing!! I definitely want to read Mr. Mercedes and Skin Game; Butcher and King are staples in this house. California sounds good as well – I will have to check back for your review! 🙂
I’m a HUGE Butcher fan; I’m surprised I lasted as long as I did before diving into his latest – which I of course adored. King is wonderful too, but I do prefer to listen to his stories versus read them. Still, I’m enjoying this latest one. He does crime fiction SO well.
Have a great week!
I liked both Skin Game and The Queen of the Tearling. I hope you did too. The rest of your bunch are new to me. Come see my busy week here. Happy reading!
I adore the Harry Dresden series, so that one was definitely perfect in my eyes. I thoroughly enjoyed The Queen of the Tearling. Finally, an adult dystopian/alternative reality story!
Have a great week!
I have never read a Stephen King book…crazy, right? This new book of his sounds good. Hope you’re enjoying it!
Can’t wait to see your thoughts on The Butcher. Happy Reading!
Never? I shouldn’t say anything. I didn’t start reading King until three years ago. I quickly became a convert though and adore his books.
Have a great week!
