Thoughts on books, family, and life in one impressive package.
What Are You Reading?

Hosted by Sheila from Book Journey, this is a weekly event to share what we’ve read in the past week and what we hope to read, plus whatever else comes to mind.

Finished Last Week:

The Visitors by Sally Beauman Skin Game by Jim Butcher Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands by Chris Bohjalian The Walk Home by Rachel Seiffert The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

Did Not Finish:

Forty Acres by Dwayne Alexander Smith

I’m sure this is a wonderful thriller. The premise still intrigues me. Unfortunately, the narrative style does not mesh with my tastes. Thirty pages into the story, all I could focus on was the use of cliffhangers to end every chapter as well as the extremely short chapters used to artificially generate more suspense. The sentence structure was a bit too simplistic and repetitive. For example, the phrase “he watched” was used in three sentences in a row. This is one of those books where I would only be able to pay attention to how much the narrative bothers me, which is neither fair to the author nor fair to my own time and energy. Therefore, I’m calling this one an official DNF.

Currently Reading:

All I Love and Know by Judith Frank

Currently Listening:

Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King

Up Next:

California by Edan Lepucki Life Drawing by Robin Black The Butcher by Jennifer Hillier The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron
