Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope everyone is experiencing the absolutely gorgeous weather we are having this weekend. Low 80s and sunny with a backdrop of all the fall colors, it is definitely a reminder of the sheer beauty of which Mother Nature is capable. I have a feeling that this is a last hurrah of sorts, so we definitely need to enjoy this while it lasts!
It has been another quite interesting week at work. We finally started some of the town hall meetings with the new owners. I still have no idea what the future holds for us, but they do seem pretty forthright. Their intent is not to screw anyone over, but some of the changes, to operating systems and some of the benefits, are definitely going to take some adjustment time. Granted, two of the gentlemen/upper management who mediated the town hall meetings were from Ireland, and even the most uneducated/guttural Irish accent is lyrical. It does help ease some of the pain of all this to hear them talk.
Connor is still going strong with cross-country. He actually achieved a personal record yesterday, coming it at 13 minutes exactly. Of course, being extremely competitive and hard on himself like he is, he was actually upset at that time, believing that he could have done better. I think he finally realized that a PR is a big deal by the end of the day. It will be interesting to see how he does on his final run next Saturday.
Speaking of next weekend, the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association (GLiBA) trade show is next week already. I have been anticipating this since I came home from it last year. My goal is to not come back with as many books as I did last time. I am looking forward to seeing some faces from last year and meeting new booksellers, authors, and publishers, as well as getting the chance to catch up with Jen from Devourer of Books again. I’ll be sure to share all the goodies when I return!
My reading has really slowed down lately. For the first time in a very long time, I actually ran out of finished books to review.
I am trying to make up for my lack of print books finished with audiobooks. Case in point, I reviewed three different audiobooks this week. That’s a lot of audio. Sadly, they’ve been better than the print books I’ve been reading lately.
- The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (audiobook)
- Death Masks by Jim Butcher (audiobook)
- The True Memoirs of Little K by Adrienne Sharp
- Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (audiobook)

The audio is a fantastic way to read chunksters. It also helps you get through some of the foreign words and phrases, of which there are many!
Ah, audiobooks. Somehow I missed that in your review of The Historian. Not saying I will never read it but I have to be in the right mood to tackle a giant book. I think audio may be the way to go with that one.

Thanks, Amy! If it was like this all summer long, I would think I had died and gone to heaven. No humidity is HUGE.
Yes, even bad news sounds acceptable with an Irish lilt. I don't know what it is. Of course, I do not want to test my theory. It will probably be a few more months before I have the chance to do so though.
He now realizes that a PR is impressive, but now we move on to motivating him to get a new PR for the big meet next Saturday, which is also his last. We shall see!
GLiBA is a fun event. I went hog-wild last year on all the books. I cannot do that again. It would be very, very bad. But it is so tempting, and everyone is so gracious!
Thanks! I feel bad that it seems like I can finish long audiobooks but a 300-page print book kicked my butt this week. I do like audiobook reviews too because I always try to make sure I get the good ones that others recommend too. There are few things worse than listening to a horrible audio performance.
No stealing of sunshine – I promise! Compared to last week when it is was in the mid-forties and rainy, we could use a nice weekend. 😉
I wish you still lived in Michigan too! How much fun we would have if we could get together more regularly!
Sometimes I get in the audio groove too! I love hearing which audio books people recommend though because it's always good to know which are the good ones. Hope you have a great week!
Your post started the opposite of mine. We are having a dreary, rainy day. Did you steal my sunshine?
I was just telling Jen that I wish I still lived in Michigan so I could hang out with you guys next weekend. Have fun at GLIBA. 🙂
