In comparison to last weekend, the Shannon clan is taking it easy this weekend. No soccer, no piano, nothing – it is heaven. Today is supposed to be 20 degrees cooler than yesterday, meaning we might be able to enjoy the outdoors today for the first time in several weeks. That means reading outside – we shall see if it occurs.
The kids celebrated their last day of school this week. They get a few days’ rest before summer activities start. There is no such thing as a rest for the weary, and no such thing as a summer vacation for kids’ activities it seems. Piano lessons continue this week, and Connor’s first cross-country practice starts on Monday. Holly’s summer dance practice starts in two weeks, and we suspect soccer practices will be starting up again in another month. We are going to need a vacation from our summer vacation, I fear.
Did you catch the excitement of Audiobook Week? Check out the main site for all the goodies! If you are pinched for time, check out my various thoughts on audiobooks:
I also managed to post reviews of the following this week:
- Fool Moon by Jim Butcher (audiobook)
- The Art of Forgetting by Camille Noe Pagan
- Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde (audiobook)
As for reading, I managed to finish four books this week.
- The Convert by Deborah Baker
- The House at Riverton by Kate Morton (audiobook)
- The Girl in the Garden by Kamala Nair
- The Tiger by John Vaillant
There is going to be nothing but reviews for the month of June, and at this rate, well into July. It’s a good problem to have, right?
Speaking of reviews, I have a few to write, and I want to make sure I also enjoy some downtime today as well. Have a great Sunday! Happy reading!

I know. It's pathetic, isn't it? I really need to learn to say no to them.
Wow, busy busy kiddies. 😀 They have more activities going on over the summer than me. 😉

Downtime is such an unfamiliar event, is it not? Chillaxing at the house is my favorite past time these days, if only because it is such a rare event. Part of being busy means much more time to read…too much time spent at practices.
I LOVED it! (I read it based on your suggestion.) I still need to write the review but I could not put it down.
I hope to at least have quiet weekends this summer, if only to make up for the week nights. we shall see!
Hopefully, you can participate in Audiobook Week next year. It is always such a great time. I love seeing everyone's recommendations!
It is a good one! I'm struggling to write the review, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Have fun reading!
Downtime: what's that? 🙂
Actually The Wife and I are enjoying just that today. Neither of us have to be anywhere other than where we are: chillaxing in the house.
Oh, reading? Sure, a little, but no pressure.

Oohhhh excited to see your thoughts on The Tiger! Also, happy to hear you are having a rare quiet weekend. I hope that you are able to get at least one or two more through the summer 😉 I sadly missed audiobook week due to crazy schedule (work, vacation, family time, a wedding, etc), and I've even begun listening to them myself! Next year I'm going to have to try to do better 🙂

I'm going to be reading The Girl in the Garden for TLC book tours soon – hope it's a good one!
