Did everyone had a good weekend? I was busy partying it up with Bloggiesta! Now that it is Monday, it is time to get back into the normal routine. What better way to start the weekend than Rebecca at Just One More Page… and her weekly event, Musing Mondays!Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about tidy bookshelves.
Are your bookshelves strictly books only? Or have knick-knacks invaded? Do your shelves also shelve DVDs? Photos? Why not snap a photo – I’m sure we all like to spy on other’s shelves!
I have three bookshelves, two of which are in my family room. The other is in my office. The office is strictly books only. The two bookshelves in my family room are part of my entertainment unit, so I have attempted to decorate them just a bit.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) as more books enter the house, I am running out of room on bookshelves of any kind and my photos are having to find other locations. Right now, I only have one photo and My Pocket Edward decorating those two bookshelves. I predict that they will all be filled before the end of the year!

Thanks, Kristi! I hate clutter. I really cannot stand it, and I have been known to give books away in an effort to avoid clutter ***shudder***. I've since stopped doing so and have just resigned myself to getting more bookshelves.
Yours look so nice. I have…let's see…four bookshelves, two small and two large. One of the larger shelves is my “nice” bookshelf and is in the living room. I bought it this summer from an unfinished furniture shop and stained and sealed it myself. It holds my nicest-looking books – definitely no ratty paperbacks. My other three shelves are in my bedroom, and they're currently a mess. I'm out of space again already, so I've resorted to double-shelving on some of them. I hate having messy shelves but short of (gasp) getting rid of some books, there's not much I can do – I just don't have space for another shelf.
Thanks, Rebecca! Those two are my pride and joy and only hold the prettiest of books, since they are displayed so prominently. My office one holds my paperbacks, which aren't quite as pretty.
Alexia – I just started participating in this weekly event, but it does give Mondays a little more exciting and asks some very thought-provoking questions at times!
One of the things I love about the book blogging community is that everyone gets the need for more shelf space and the need to keep books on hand at all times. It's so nice to be understood!

Love the looks of your bookshelves! Much neater than mine. *L* Mine are full of books, with knick knacks in the front. Currently have six bookcases and trying to sneak in a seventh, as I have books stacked on the floor and on every available surface!
Agree with you that it's sad to walk into a house and see no books. When we were house hunting a few years back, I was amazed at how many homes didn't have a single book in sight, much less a bookcase.
Bermudaonion – What I didn't post was my five-shelf unit up in my office. I was too lazy to get out of the chair to take a picture, but you would see that completely full too. Oh well. Maybe I can convince him that I need a new one for my birthday!

I have one teeny-tiny bookshelf and need to buy a bigger one some kind of bad, so I know what you mean.

Nicole – You are SO right! Conversely, it never fails to sadden me when I walk into a house and do not see any bookshelves whatsoever or built-in bookshelves used for everything but books. What a waste!
It's so funny to me how we book lovers change things in our homes to accommodate more books! I de-clutter and try as I might I never give up book space to make room for other stuff.
Nise' – Thanks! I cannot stand cluttered bookshelves. My books are some of my most prized possessions, and I want to make sure that everyone can see what I have collected. (That and I am just a wee bit OCD and need things organized.)
Care – I completely understand! I've been trying to add at least one more bookshelf to my office, but my husband keeps stalling by stating we do not have the room. I say we will find room, but that's just me. I think I will have to work on him some more…
They look nice and neat! Nice entertainment center too.
I wish I had more bookshelves but I would have to sneak them in… Hub thinks more shelves will mean more books and the beginning of an increasing unending cycle.
