You guys are KILLING me! Just when I thought I was happy with the number of challenges I had joined, confident that I was going to complete them all, I find at least three more in which I am interested. Ugh. So, now I am debating – do I join the additional ones or do I stick with the fact that I said I was finished joining them? If they weren’t so darn tempting, I really would not be in this dilemma. Is this as difficult for everyone else? Do you join all of those that sound interesting? Or do you limit yourself to a select few?
Hmmm…I have a few more weeks before they all start to decide. Please excuse me while I go wage an internal debate about my ability to complete these challenges during the next twelve months!

Michelle – I think I am going to do just that! If anything, I know I'll read some great books that I would not normally have picked up. And if I can cross off a good number from my TBR list, then I figure it was worth the effort!
I look at challenges to be more like guidelines and reading lists more than actual hard and fast rules. I rarely “win” them but enjoy participating and seeing what others do as I make the attempt as well.
I say go for it and join as many as you find interesting.
Stacy – I passed four a long time ago. I am still debating my decision, but I will be making a decision soon.
I know what youe mean! I promised myself only 4 this year and chose them, but all of these cool ones keep popping up@
Stephanie – My concern is that I am too anal about completing them! But, as it is my first time attempting them, I have no idea what I can and cannot attempt. That's my debate.
Lisa – That is probably the best way to go about this. The ones I've joined for the most part can cross-over. It's about the only way I can realistically complete them all.
This is one of those debates you will see!! When I first started blogging, the challenges were pretty few. Now there are way more than a person knows what to do with.
Here's my take. If you are not too incredibly anal about completing them, join all of them you like. A. It's an opportunity to meet new people and read some great reviews. B. There are fun. And I LOVE the research and making lists. C. You can find a whole new stack of books to add to your TBR. And finally, you find yourself reading books you might not have picked up if it wasn't for the challenges.
I like to join them. I just find it hard to complete them. I finish about half the ones I join, but I haven't ever been sorry I joined a challenge!
I thought I was done but then I found some that have great crossover potential so I can join them without having to commit to too many more books.
thetruebookaddict – This is my first year too. I did essentially what you did, starring the interesting challenges at A Novel Challenge. My problem is they keep rolling in, and I love so many of them! But I want to keep my options open too. Decisions, decisions…
Diane – I'm at nine challenges so far, six of which start Jan 1. I'm game if you are!!
Okay Michelle, here is my OCD way of deciding what challenges to join. First, I've been starring all the interesting challenges in Google Reader. Then, the other day I went through and printed every single one out. Now I'm going to group them (as best I can) by similarity. And then I will make my choices. Let me just say that I'm going to be joining A LOT of challenges…I just can't help myself =o) I'm already doing the 2010 Countdown Challenge, the top 100 Fantasy Challenge, the Year of the Historical, and I'm hosting The Michener Challenge. I'm going to try to coordinate some crossover so I think it will be manageable! *fingers crossed* This is my first year with a book blog so I'm really enjoying all the great motivation to get more reading done!
Good luck in deciding which ones you will join!
LOL LOL (me too). I joined 5 that start on Jan 1 and said that is it, but now I've found 3 more so I am in the same situation as you. (I say we go for it)???
Jodie – I purposefully did not join any challenges until the latter end of the year (starting with the RIP challenge). I have no idea what I'm capable of finishing or not! I think that is half my dilemma.
I'm limiting my challenges this year, but last year I joined everything! Felt great at the time, not so great when I didn't complete them.
