Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Or as I am calling it this year, just another Sunday. Does anyone really care about the game this year? I just feel like there are other things that are more worthwhile than watching Tom Brady and Bill Belichick cheat their way through another game. I am happy for the Falcons but that does not mean I want to watch any of the festivities. How about you?
Last week was exhausting, but this week was just downright depressing. Between work shit and the ongoing drama from D.C., it was a bit more than I could take this week. Jim is having some issues of his own at work that aren’t helping. To make matters worse, Connor has a serious case of ennui that is getting worse and seriously impacting everything he does, and we don’t know how to help him. Then, the final cap was finding out Holly was passed over for a solo role in the ballet for someone who has only been dancing for a year to Holly’s eight years. Frustrating.
The bright spot in the week was some much-needed self-care and friends. Jim and I continued our CrossFit onboarding program and found that 4:30 AM may be early but the workout is too awesome to mind too much. Between that and a manicure appointment as well as a hair appointment, it was nice to take a break from everything. Then, I got to meet up with a friend I have not seen for a while. It definitely improved a crappy week.
Here are past posts from the last week in case you missed them the first time:

What is going on in your life? Do you have any plans for the big game today? More importantly, what yummy foods are you going to make? (Hey, I might not watch the game but that does not mean I cannot make a Super Bowl spread.)
Have a great day, everyone! I wish you all a fantastic week and will see you back here next Sunday!

After Tom Brady refused to go to the White House after they won the last time, any little respect I had for his game went out the window. Plus, the cheating. So even though I thought the Falcon fans were terrible to Green Bay, I had to cheer for them. What a disappointment! Sorry to hear you’ve had such a tough week but I’m glad you found some good things in it!
I felt bad for Atlanta! I really wanted them to win. Ugh. what a disaster ending. With that and the new gov’t, it’s taken the wind out of my sails. I hope you have a better week
We watched the game and I just could not believe their luck. F’ing Tom Brady. But I did love Lady Gaga’s show. Best halftime show ever.
I’m glad you had some brightness at the end of your week, and I hope this week is going well!
I detest Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Cheaters. And I was absolutely sick to my stomach by Joe Buck and Troy Aikman’s fawning over them both. Best ever my ass. That halftime show made up for the fact that I had to watch those two asshats win the entire thing. Plus that 84 Lumber commercial – the whole version available online – was spectacular.
What a crappy week!! I’m so sorry Holly was passed over for a new kid. My daughter is already plotting what role she will audition for based on previous experience with who gets what.
What’s going on with Connor? Why the ennui? My son went through that but earlier in high school. He was involved in too much and just broke down.
It wasn’t the greatest week by any means.
We think Connor is just ready to be done with school. It is senioritis without the giddiness or apathy. He wants to do the work and continue to do well in school but cannot summon the energy to get it done. His rough cross-country season was just the start from what he has told us. I think he is ready to move on and start his degree rather than deal with the general BS of high school.
we went to a pub and had wings and beer. The super bowl was on, but I honestly didn’t pay that much attention. lol Watched the Half Time show and some of the commercials. We didn’t get there for the beginning, it was like the second quarter when we started watching.
I didn’t pay all that much attention to the actual game either. I did watch all of the commercials though. That halftime show! Best one ever.
We had a superbowl party at my in-law’s house, and the game turned out to be interesting to watch. The football was more interesting than usual, and the commercials – subversive undertones all throughout, with focus on gender equality, diversity, multi-lingual/cultural heritage, immigration, etc. Every other commercial it seemed had some not-too-subtle message. I thoroughly enjoyed that part of the evening. 😀
I thoroughly enjoyed the commercials as well. The game…well, I was a lot happier the first half. I honestly didn’t pay close attention to it, even when it got close.
I don’t care about the game either…and not just because it’s the Patriots. I don’t think I’ve ever been a big fan of “The Big Game.” I’d rather be reading or watching something else, anything else really…as far as the ongoing drama from D.C., I can relate to the depression, as I’ve mentioned before on my blog. That’s great that you and Jim are doing CrossFit together. Now maybe Kim will get me into her DDP (Diamond Dallas Page) yoga.
Do it! It would work with your word of the year!
No, we’re not into the Super Bowl this year. So, no yummy food to talk about. I’m glad to hear that you are continuing your Crossfit, though 4:30 is early even for us (we get up at 5). I’m sure all those little happy hormones are flowing. And getting a manicure, meeting with a friend, all positive actions. Sometimes, you just have to look for the light between the storm clouds. Leonard Cohen wrote ‘There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.’ He gave Louise Penny permission to use it for one of her books, HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN. I think that is really a profound thought and helpful to me in tough times. I shared a bit about that a while back on my blog and feel that it’s ‘joy’ that seeps in. Hugs. Hope your week is ‘good enough’. 🙂
That’s a wonderful sentiment and one I definitely need to remember every day. Thanks for sharing!
Have a wonderful week! We’re having queso and guacamole and boudin with the family and that’s our whole little Super Bowl celebration. But I admit that I have imbued the game with a lot, A LOT, of symbolic significance, and I now consider it to be a battle for the soul of America. This won’t be great for me if the Patriots end up winning, God forbid, so I am trying to prepare my brain to be satisfied just with Tom Brady getting sacked a lot by the Falcons’ hella great defense.
Mmmm…guac. My daughter had queso. I think the entire country has the same significance for the game. Plus, Brady is just an ass and he deserves every hard hit he takes.
